What is the Secret Fire?

I have seen a lot of posts on the Secret Fire (formerly Legends and Labyrinths) RPG.

I saw the ads, and my first thought was "oh another Fantasy Heartbreaker".
But I have seen a lot more recently and I'll admit I am curious.  The character sheet looks cool, but a part of me still thinks "fantasy heartbreaker", but I am willing to have a look.

BUT....since I blew past my RPG budget for August. And September...and October at Gen Con, I am not going to pick it up just yet.

Anyone pick it up yet? Play it?

I don't need another game, or even another game to distract me.  But there it is. Out there. Taunting me.

I have yet to see it, though it does smack heavily of heartbreaker.

Though I have to admit, I'm fascinated by the fact that an elf character can start the game with "a box of wasps," if he rolls it on the random equipment table.

I feel you, man.

I also wants it. Along with LOTFP.

From what I have been hearing "The Secret Fire" out weirds LotFP by miles.

I was in the beta and did some preliminary (unused, I'm sure) map work for it. I don't know what changed from Beta to the Release versions, but what I did see and get to fiddle around with was well put together and fun to run through. It's like, oh, someone took the soul of Basic D&D and put it into a modern game. George and Tony did a good job with it. I'd buy the game, but heck, I can't even afford gas right now. :)

Tim, I've been reading thru (and blogging about it) pretty randomly, and I like what I see so far. My biggest complaint was the PDF lacking bookmarks (its over 300 pages long) and that has been rectified.

Hmm, it's kinda like D&D reincarnated via the druid spell. It's D&D with lots of changes (the vast majority seem to work well) but it's still D&D beneath the hood.

Tenkar, I have to admit your posts caused me to give it a second look after my first dismissal.

If you didn't get a free copy, then you should have! ;)

Yes, Tenkar. I too have been tempted by your posts...
