Zatannurday: Constantine

Sorry for the delay.  Have a party we are getting ready for today.

Last night was the premier of the TV series Constantine on NBC.
What did you think?

Well the critics seem to be mixed and the ratings were only ok (4.3 million). But it was up against the World Series, so hopefully we should see a ratings climb by next week (even if it is Halloween).

The actors were fine, but could have been better.
A number of comic book elements make an appearance including a few name drops (Nergal for example) and the Helm of Nabu from Dr. Fate.  Though not quite as much as say the new Flash series.  I am still quite hopeful that we will see Zatanna at one point.

I think it has potential to be honest.  Can't wait to see where it goes.

I'm surprised they didn't reshoot the pilot or the parts with the woman (I'm guessing they reshot the end scene). Her dropping out was a surprise. IMDB has her making a movie. New female lead starting next episode.
If there was an exposition dump, I didn't notice it. They seemed to have spread it out through the episode, with more to come (what's the deal with Chas?).
I don't have a "I got to see what happens next" feel about it right now. But it was the pilot, I don't feel you can judge a show purely on the pilot.

It was enjoyable if not entirely coherent. I am certainly willing to give it a few more episodes to pull itself together. I ended up liking the actor playing Constantine a lot more than I was expecting from the preview clips.

It was better than the movie ... but that is a low bar. Good casting for the main character. He looks right. But the story didn't have any depth and the setting is all wrong. I wanted to like this. Maybe it will get better.
