I now have it in my hands and while I am not 100% sold yet, man it is a lot neater than I thought it would be.
I am much more excited now.
There is an Old School vibe to this game, yet it still has the things from 3x and 4e that I liked. Did WotC hit a home run here? No. But it is was a solid Double moving the runner to Third.
I don't even mind it took a long time to get.

So far I like what I'm reading. I was planning on getting a second weekly gaming group together and I think I know what our first game is going to be.
I've also liked a lot about what I've read. But I also realized that I'm a bit 'full' of d&d right now, I forcedly pushed my 4E campaign to finish even if I started to dislike the system and need a bit pause from D&D gm'ing. I hope some of my friends decides to run playtests, I'd love to play!
I'm a bit concerned about amount of special abilities though. They aren't bad at low levels (especially if focus is paid to organization) but I really hope that character improvement focuses on improving starting abilities and making them more versatile rather than giving new ones.
Another thing that sticks to my eye is what I was already concerned of when hearing about dropping 'minions' off. I'm afraid there will be low damage attacks even at higher levels that will leave you with swarms of orcs with just a few hit points left. But I may well be wrong, perhaps it's already been thought of.
I wouldn't call it a home run either, but I'm liking almost everything I see, and I'm also liking that a bunch of others on the WotC boards agree. As long as it stays on track, I'll probably get it.
Much more Moldvay/Old School than I expected, so at least there are doors open to classic adventure.
I don't think the playtest material is streamlined enough to get anyone to switch from clone rules. It looks to be a faceoff between Pathfinder and DnDV...
Felt more like castles and crusades to me. I liked what was there but as was already said not enough for me to swoon. My sons and I will be looking this weekend.
Yeah, if we get a chance we will play too.
I am liking it, with one major hesitation: Wizards are far too powerful, compared with their old-school counterparts.
