I am not afraid to admit this,

But I am in constant awe over the level and depths of research J. K. Rowling did for the Harry Potter series.

Just even the care and attention that went into the names of, well, everyone.

Doing some research on some other topics and it keeps coming back to something I read in Harry Potter.  That then leads me somewhere else.

I think what I need to do know is re-read all the books and I will also admit that I am looking forward to her new book, The Casual Vacancy.  It sounds, as my friend Andrew puts it, Fab".  It sounds like a good British black comedy.

I also think it is a crime there is no official Harry Potter RPG.

I agree, it's at least extremely surprising that there isn't an HPRPG out there. I don't think I can even count on one hand any half-serious attempts to replace Vancian with Rowling magic in game mechanics.

Someone more skilled than I would need to do that!

Do the fans need an RPG?
Don't a lot of them basically LARP it?
There are Quidditch(sic?) leagues all over the place, aren't there?

I would be terrified to see what the licensing for this would cost and probably have to get each word approved by JK.

Working in a book shop means we have fun with big new titles coming out, and when the Casual Vacancy hits the shelf, we're doing a murder mystery night. probably not a huge shock that me and another gamer who works there got roped in no questions asked.

Apparently I get to play a 1920s cad. I'm looking forward to it, but not sure why that role got picked for me...

From what I've heard, JKR is very protective of her universe. She wants input into every product they make. This is good in preventing crap, but it's probably made it hard to make a game. She is detail oriented, so she'd want the magic to work like she sees it happening. And that might be hard to reconcile with a balanced game.
