Starfinder

Paizo has announced "Starfinder", a new Sci-Fi game that is compatible with their Pathfinder game.

I am cautiously optimistic.  This could be a lot of fun and I have a ton of d20 compatible Sci-Fi games to play with.  But of course, I have to ask what will this give me that White Star doesn't already do?

Well it looks like I'll have to wait till 2017 to find out.

That's a pretty picture but I'm guessing it will still be mostly about people in tight bodysuits brandishing guns.

As for what it can give, It's meant to be reverse-compatible with Pathfinder, so you can bring in a bunch of material for it. Pathfinder's main strength has always been a huge amount of options and character customization, plus it has a higher level of power at later levels in comparison to other retroclones. You can very much run a fantasy superheroes type of game with mid to high level spellcasters in Pathfinder with some tweaks here and there. White Star overall is on a rather low power spectrum when it comes to retroclones.

I'm mostly interested in seeing what they do with the setting for this one.

Also, I wonder how much the seeming success of 5E forced Paizo's hand in seeking out a secondary niche (or maybe tertiary, as their card game looks like it's doing pretty well, too)...
