Old School D&D find

Hey if anyone reading this is living in the Chicago 'burbs then the Half-Priced Books in Palatine, IL (on Rand Rd) has a copy of the D&D Basic set, Tom Moldvay edition, for sale.
The box shows some shelf wear but the books are complete (including the TSR catalog), and in near mint condition.  There are a set of yellow marbleized, un-marked dice, no crayon.

It is going to 25 bucks, an absolute steal for this.

Cheaper than you'd end up paying for it on ebay. Moldvay Basic is a pretty hot item, right now.

Is it really?! I had no idea. I'm guessing that maybe like 10 years ago, this set could have been nabbed for like $10 or less on eBay. I could be wrong, of course.

Glad I still have my original one that I got more than 28 years ago sitting here on my office bookshelf!

$40+ isn't uncommon for a box, book and module. I've seen several go for over $50. That's not shrinkwrapped! A couple of weeks ago, about four sets ended up going for less than $20 each, but that was an aberration, unless it's signaling a change in the market. You can snag the book by itself for less than $10 if you're patient and a book + B2 for $15 or so. But for the whole set, in decent shape, I'd consider $30 to be a good deal. Things are wonky enough on ebay right now, though, that patience can really pay off!

Ok..I was able to get it and it is in great shape. Some highlighting in the rulebook but B2 is damn near pristine!

The funky yellow dice and crayon are there and in good shape as well...

Tim, thanks for the heads up!
