A Light Dims over the Cave of Cool: Calvin Heighton (1965-2026)

I learned today something I have been expecting for a bit now, but that doesn't make it easier.

Proflic blogger Calvin Heighton passed away this past week. Calvin was known for his Cave of Cool blog.

Calvin's Cave of Cool

Calvin started blogging around the same time I did, and I followed his blog religiously. Whether he was posting about his extensive action figure collection, his Glorious Girls Of The Redhead Rebellion, Wednesdays with Wonder Woman, and Why Are My Parties The Best Parties?

I learned yesterday morning from my friend Tim Knight, of Cowboys, Capes, and Claws

Tim and I have been asking about Calvin for about a year now, noticing that after averaging 7+ posts a day for nearly 18 years (almost 48,000 posts), he fell silent. We knew his mom had been ill, and we knew he had some housing insecurity.

He loved superheroines and action figures, so I sent him one of the "Together Forever" sets of the Willow & Tara figures. We enjoyed chatting about having June birthdays and our shared love of Thomas Dolby's "The Golden Age of Wireless."

I liked Calvin. He was a good guy. Bombastic in all the ways made him a great internet personality. He will be missed.
