This is why we don't have nice things...

To the 4-Haters, 3-haters, the 3.5-but-still-like-3-haters, the OSR-haters, the Orcs-with-lasers-haters, the Orcs-with-lasers-haters-haters, the ones that like Orcs but not Orks and that One Guy.  And to all one-true-wayers and anyone that thinks that it is part of a company's business plan just to screw you over.

This is all for you.

I have seen fewer cat-fights and bitching in a Spanish soap-opera.

Look, I like some of the points made by the blog-cognoscenti but the constant complaining about "that other game" (whatever that is for them) is getting old again.

Tell me why you like you game, but try to do it without resorting to "it is the only true way to play because the new/old/different way sucks."

I heartily agree. I can understand not liking a game, that's your perogative. But to pour derision and scorn on others for playing a game? Absolutely rediculous. It's crap like that that just lends me to believe there will never be peace in the Middle East if folks are so screwy to get in heated arguments over a game. Well, what are you gonna do? Me, I'm going to make some more spiced wine and work on my game project.

Yes. the complaining is getting old.

Now telling me why your game is great is one thing.

ChicgoWiz recent post I ready as more of a challenge to the OSR to do better, not that what they have done sucks.

I may not like some of the products out there, but damn, I am not going to bitch because I think your fun is somehow less than mine.

And to say that someone's first D&D experience is lesser because it happens to be 4e and not Gygax/Holmes/Moldvay/Metzer is as equally stupid.

I have been writing for a LotFP game, but my fiancee and I are going to play some 4e with some friends this afternoon.

If you think this catfighting is bad, go to a punk rock message board. *facepalm*

I can't stomach the "I hope WotC goes bankrupt!" chant. That makes no sense and would be bad for the hobby. Steve Jackson is a smart guy and he's demonstrated that he knows his way around the industry. He once said something to the effect of, "It's important for Dungeons and Dragons to do well, because as D&D goes, so goes the rest of the hobby."

I thought some more about teh random cards from WotC and realized, "Why do I even care? I have escrow to close on a property. Whoop dee freaking doo."

Man I have way too many friends like that. One of them out right refuses to talk about our 3.5 games because he thinks the first edition of DnD is the only one worth talking about. Mean while I don't think he even played a first edition session, ever.......

The fight is only so vicious because the stakes are so low.

I like to game with my friends. I like some game systems more than others, but as long as my friends are interested in playing it, I will at least give a system a try. And, honestly, almost no system is so bad it cannot be fun with the right group.

Well said! We need to get some of the positive attitude back. Actually these grumpy folks have been around since the 70s, but there has always been more positive people too. These are the ones who keep the hobby alive. Not the grumpies.

Nicely put. Figure after 2 years of the release with 4E the bile against that, counter to the older editions, counter to the OSR folks, things would have calmed down by now with people being happy folks are still playing RPGs and the hobby is still alive. Oh well. And one more thing...

'SPLITTER!'

Geek Ken said...

Oh and I mean 'counter' as in folks playing the newest fangled edition of some game hating older editions, OSR, and anyone else that praises AD&D. [comment added for clarity of ill written reply in effort to reduce chances of an utter flame war on this post.]

100% have your back on this.

Last time I called out the haters, I was in turn called out as a traitor to the OSR.

Fuck the hate. Game on!

We can be quite particular about the side upon which we crack open our eggs, can't we.
