New Dungeon Master's Guide Cover

The new cover for the new 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide is now out and features some fan favorites.

So we got Venger, Warduke, and favorite of the Other Side, Skylla!

When I started posting about Skylla years ago, she was a relatively unknown character save for some Old School gamers like me. Now, she is moving up in the world.

I like the red spine. Help differentiate them from my 5.0 books.

Skylla is looking good. I am hoping we will be getting some more of her.  Greyhawk will be the core setting so I am expecting more Tasha/Iggwilv material too.

I'll keep you posted on this new 5R version of D&D.

  1. I will skip the usual lament about WotC doing nothing but milking the past for money. Instead, I will say:

    1) it tickles me somewhat to see both Venger and Warduke on the DMG cover
    2) at the same time, isn't it a little silly to have Venger and not the diminutive "Dungeon Master" (from the same cartoon) on the cover of a "Dungeon Master Guide?"
    3) I found my old Skylla miniature (the 3", non-posable plastic piece) a year or so ago. It has been sitting on my daughter's nightstand ever since, like a tiny totem. I'm on board with the Skylla love.
    4) this makes me curious to see who will grace the PHB cover.

  2. Yeah at this point everyone needs to give up on the "milking the past" argument. It is falling on very deaf ears.

The idea with the DMG is to showcase the villains. The PHB has heroes. You can see that cover here: https://www.enworld.org/threads/new-d-d-editions-player%E2%80%99s-handbook-cover-reveal.704200/

To be honest, I am a little surprised to see Skylla. When I started covering her, very few people knew who she was or even remembered her.

  3. Well, I’m sure they wanted some female representation, and (perhaps) they felt Eclavdra…while iconic…was “problematic.”

Though Llolth would have been good.

  4. I am expecting we might see Lolth and/or Tiamat on the cover of the Monster Manual.
