Hello. My name is Tim Brannan and I am a Dungeon! addict.
It started out simply enough in 1981. I got a Dungeon board game for Christmas along with the D&D Basic Set. I played that game for hours and hours. I even made little version of my own D&D characters on Dungeon cards to run them through. Yup my first game conversion.
At some point I lost that game along with a lot of my Basic/Expert and Advanced stuff. But I never forgot it.
I have bought other Dungeons in the past, but none really measured up to that first one with the color in dice and little grave counters.
Well. I fixed that!
Presenting my newest acquisition!
Just like my original.
Here is a close up of the dice and the Erol Otus art.
And more of my expanding collection.
Yeah.
I might need professional help.
But in my defense we do play these games, they are not sitting on shelf collecting dust.
Oh, we loved that as kids. We have had two versions. Ever play Caverns of Doom?
ReplyDeleteYou got problems, man! Just kidding. Seriously, there were that many versions of the game? Or are a couple of those just expansions, like the ones with the skeletons on the box? I'm a relative Dungeon! newb, so please school me!
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, I think that expansions to board games is a relatively new phenomenon, probably pioneered by Fantasy Flight Games for that matter. Am I correct in that assumption?
I had most of those at one point or another. My kids favorite is the New Dungeon (the 1989 version)..that did have an expansion for it..complete with Ral Partha miniatures.
ReplyDeleteThose are all different versions of the same game. There is one other version I am aware of, there might be more.
ReplyDeleteI recall that some Avon Hill games that had expansions back in the day.
I don't think I have ever seen the Caverns of Doom.
OldLineStateDad,
ReplyDeleteThat is the one I don't have.
I am so envious of your collection! I started with the same edition, now sadly lost, but I hope to acquire another copy someday, along with the earlier editions. I remember making custom spell cards for it. Admittedly, playing Dungeon always put me in a mood to role-play, but that's a good thing.
ReplyDelete@ TIm:
ReplyDeleteI love Dungeon!...I started with the version that you just "newly acquired" and I still own and play it.
Did you see the new cards I did for Dungeon! a little while back? I ended up retreading both the cards and the rules (had to buy a cold press laminator for THAT little arts-&-crafts project, but the end result was worth it). You can check it out at:

You know I think I did when you posted them and then forgot to print them out.
ReplyDeleteConsider them yoinked in queue to be printed!
I have never seen a few of these ! Fantastic. Could you please post individual pics in a good resolution? I'd love to try a T-SHirt design.
ReplyDeleteI have the two versions that are at the bottom of the pile. I had not seen the skeleton covers before.
ReplyDeleteI might just have to slink around Ebay a bit.
