Hey.
So between working on Strange Brew, the Horror Movie Challenge and oh yeah the Day Job, I kinda feel like I have been phoning it in lately.
Well today is no different!!
Actually though there is something you all can do to REALLY help out. I will post the reasoning tomorrow as part of a larger post.
But what I would like to know today is this.
What is your favorite OSR adventure module?
By this I mean a new adventure, published say since 2007 (I am flexible on that date), by a third party publisher for use with one of the OSR* rulesets or the Original Rules (OD&D, BD&D, AD&D).
(*I guess unless that is a tautology above I am saying that the "R" in OSR does not mean "Rules". That's about as close as a definition as you are going to get around here.)
I would prefer stand alone adventures, but a trilogy is also fine.
Tell me what it is and why you like it.
Myself I am rather fond of some of the Dragonsfoot Adventures, but mostly I like the ones from Troll Lords' Castles & Crusades line.
Post in the comments below or on Google+.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don't know how available it is, but my favorite is "Module OC1 - A Parliament of Owls" a Labyrinth Lord module a friend of mine did for OwlCon. He made it available as a PDF for con-goers, but I don't think it's been more widely distributed.
ReplyDeleteOf the commercially available, I really like the S&W one from Free RPG Day a few years ago, but I can't remember the name.
I'll have to Google it. I did forget to mention "The Hanging Coffins of the Vampire Queen" is also a good one.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would be Taglar's Tomb by Hereticworks.
ReplyDeleteGrimmsgate is also pretty good.
I'm very fond of "The Many Gates of the Gann". It's a good science fantasy/sword & sorcery delve with some really tough but solvable puzzles. Plus apes.
ReplyDeleteI've not ran many OSR adventures but having read them the two that seems the most interesting that I'm itching to run are "The Hanging Coffins of the Vampire Queen" and the revised "Death Frost Doom."
ReplyDeleteHaving read it, you know why I like Hanging Coffins. While I don't want the entire campaign to be grimdark, I like the DFD because it just takes a small part of a campaign world, but has the ability to utterly change the setting.
Red Tam's Bones on Dragonsfoot by Turcotte is very good.
ReplyDeleteToo hard to choose! Favorites of the ones I've run:
ReplyDeleteThe Pod Caverns of the Sinister Shroom
Dark Chateau
The Tower (in Death Frost Doom & Fight On #4)
Many Gates of the Gann (shameless, but I better like my own stuff!)
Of the ones I haven't run yet:
The House of Rogat Demazien
The Garden of al-Astorion
I'm probably forgetting something totally worthy of my favoritism. Also there are a bunch I like so far but haven't finished reading yet.
The one that popped right to mind is Death Frost Doom... it's was pretty much my first exposure to the OSR and what motivated me to start buying/reading/playing those games.
ReplyDeleteI bought the new revised one and gave it to my current GM... resisted peeking at it. He's gonna run us through it for Halloween.
