Old Games

Contrary to some belief I am not an obsessive collector of games.  I have things I like and genres I follow and I usually stick to that.  Outside of those I am pretty much open.

This week the Games Plus Fall auction begins and I still have some time to get some of my books in.
I am planning on selling of some of my more recent Tunnels & Trolls purchases as well as the last of the True20 material I still have laying around.

I figure anything I have not played in 5 years is good to go and anything I am not likely to play in the next 3 is also good to go.

Do ever pare down your collection?
If so, how do you decide what to sell and what to keep?

  1. I've been paring down my collection in the last couple.

My main criteria is if it has sentimental value, if its collectible, or if I just like it. If I answer "yes" to those three, then I keep it.

All of the stuff depends on its useability--have I used it in the past or will I use it within the next year?

If the answer is no, it'll probably get sold or traded.

It turns out that I don't miss much of what I've sold. In some cases it feels pretty to get rid of some that stuff.

  3. I have, and regretted it. I've actually sold twice and bought three times SPI's Campaign for North Africa. And I bought high and sold low :(

I'm currently contemplating selling most all my 3.x and pathfinder junk. (Cause I'm sick of it and 5ed utterly replaces it) Along with all the dupes I've collected from ebay.

Reasons for selling stuff vary by person. I've regretted every mass sell off eventually.

  4. As far as Tunnels and Trolls, that's where my gaming money has been going. I have cut way back elsewhere. I've also switched over to digital, when ever possible. Less shelf space used up, and I can print out the pages I want, and not the stuff I don't.

  5. I have sold things in the past and regretted it, and re bought them. But my collection has reached a steady-state now.

I know what I want and what I want to do with it all.
