See... this is why I get frustrated with comics. I get busy and stop reading for awhile, and now... what? The Question is now a woman? When did that happen?
I usually end up just reading the non-continuity one-off graphic novels. That way, I don't have to try to keep up with who the hero's "alternate-identity-of-the-week" is. The one-off stories usually just use the "main" ones that I'm used to from my childhood.

This happened in the big "52" event a while back. It was actually handled well.
