A youngish male sorcerer who is much more likely to be dashing, daring, cruel, and predatory than a typical bearded, demented, spaced-out wizard, and who is certainly chaotic and probably evil.
On the whole, I have a fairly complicated image, built as it is on a mish-mash of intellectual knowledge ("oath-breaker") and relatively unexamined media images (Bewitched and such). I suppose, if I were to try to condense it down, I'd have to point at this book. That is, something like the scinnlaeca of Anglo-Saxon heathen religion.
Billy Billerson nailed it for me. I'm going to be more verbous and say an unkempt, crazy, and probably evil wizard. It wouldn't surprise me at all if his powers came from badly thought out bargains with demonic forces.
A male version of a witch. Someone who draws power from some otherworldly power, usually a demon or other melevolent spirit.
ReplyDeleteA blue-skinned goblin in a red peaked cowl, muttering to itself.
ReplyDeleteOne of the New Mutants. ;)
ReplyDeleteEither the techno-organic character from New Mutants, or Adam Warlock, aka "Him".
ReplyDeleteDr. Bombay from Bewitched
ReplyDeleteJulian Sands and Richard E. Grant.

ReplyDeleteMarvel Comics Adam Warlock is the first thing that came to mind for me.
ReplyDeleteHobo Wizard
ReplyDeleteThe fighting fantasy magazine and John Blanche's terrific Warlock painting.
ReplyDeleteA traitor. Someone who did something horrible to their comrades and is marked for it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Alec's comment about a young sorcerer, probably in service to or in control of a demonic being.

ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, the first thing that popped into my head was the 3.5 Warlock class. Guess that's what mode I'm in right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks all!
